Grinding,Grinding & More Grinding!!

We are in full grinding mode in preparation for the spring thaw. In 2009 we purchased a new reel grinder (pictured above) and bedknife grinder to sharpen the cuting units of reel mowers. Reel mowers are used to mow greens, tees, fairways, collars and approaches. Reel mowers when set-up properly give the best quality of cut of any mower type.

Henry (LTCC-Mechanic) has the responsibility of maintaining 40 individual reels with maximum precision. These new grinders not only increase mower quality, but decrease the time necessary to grind the 40 reels. With the old grinders it would take 30 working days to grind the 40 reels. Henry is now able to grind the 40 reels in 10 days.

Henry and Ken (15 year LTCC grounds employee) do an outstanding job maintaining your largest investment in the grounds department. Without these highly skilled employees we would not be able to supply the quality of playing conditions we've come to expect.

Irrigation Mainline

We have been busy installing a new piece of irrigation mainline from the new pump station to #9 green. Without this mainline the average night of irrigation takes 8-10 hours. By installing this mainline the pump station will run half as long and will limit the number of times the pumps turn on at night saving money on energy costs and unnecessary wear and tear on the pump motors.

Grounds Blog

This blog will be a useful tool to convey playing conditions, construction updates and grounds reports thorughout the golfing season. Also, this blog will be a tool for the membership to inform the grounds department of their level of satisfaction and ways to improve the playing conditions @ LTCC.

We are looking forward to a great 2010!

Thanks,

The Grounds Department
